Trees for Suffield

The Suffield Tree Committee, the Town of Suffield, and the Suffield Garden Club have partnered to establish the Trees for Suffield Initiative. This collaborative effort is dedicated to providing our residents with a robust tree canopy that will benefit our community for generations to come.

Our job is to plant shade trees along the roadways of Suffield, and our ultimate mission is the preservation of the character of our Town.

The Future. Trees can live for a long time, but they do not live forever, even when given the best care. Continuity relies on replacement of the old with new young trees. With consistent effort to Plant for Tomorrow, our graceful, tree-lined historic district will continue to be the shaded and beautiful scenic roadway we know today.

We Need Trees. Trees enrich our environment, provide shelter, reduce stress, lower energy bills and mitigate climate effects. And that’s not all. Trees make our Town more beautiful and that helps businesses and homeowners.

You Helped Us Grow! With your support we successfully completed a crowdfunding campaign. Every dollar donated was doubled by a $6,000 matching grant from Sustainable CT.

10-Year Tree Planting Plan

Through a grant made possible by the Amiel and Mary Anne Zak Public Service Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, the Suffield Garden Club partnered with Land Canvas Landscape Architecture to create a 10-Year Tree Planting Plan for use by the Suffield Tree Committee. The plan has been reviewed and endorsed by the Town, CTDOT, the Scenic Roadway Commission, and Eversource.

Tree Inventory

Through a grant made possible by the Suffield Greater Together Community Fund at the Hartford Foundation, the Suffield Garden Club partnered with SavATree to update the Inventory of Main Street Trees in 2021 for use by the Town Tree Warden and the Suffield Tree Committee.

LIBERTY TREE PLANTING between Kent Memorial Library and Veterans Memorial Park.
We’re pleased to host a 250th Liberty Tree Dedication in honor of the United States Constitution. This event will include a short ceremony, unveiling of a bronze plaque, and a proclamation issued by the Town of Suffield read by First Selectman Colin Moll. This is a great event for folks of all ages to come together to learn the story of the Liberty Tree and our nation's history. FREE SCARLET OAK SAPLINGS provided by Bartlett Tree, for the first 25 households.

PICNIC IN THE PARK at Sunrise Park, in partnership with Suffield Parks and Recreation.
On Connecticut Trails Day, we’ll be celebrating two of the Park’s CT Notable Trees, naming
them after two of Suffield’s noteworthy residents.
Bring your lunch, a blanket, and your sense of adventure! We’ll provide the fun extras, including drinks, ice cream, and classic checkered tablecloths. Settle into a shady spot on the lawn or enjoy seating inside the pavilion and celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary—Suffield style!

We’ll also have nature- and tree-themed activities, perfect for kids, families, and anyone who loves the outdoors. It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore, play, learn, and reconnect with nature—and with one another.
