Fire Department

The Suffield Fire Department was chartered in 1897 and has continued to serve the community for well over 100 years. A six member Board of Fire Commissioners governs the Department while operating under the direction of a paid Chief. Career firefighters staff the main station twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week while also relying heavily on volunteer members.

The Department also responds to Bradley International Airport as part of a mutual aid agreement with Bradley Airport Fire Department.

The dedicated men and women of the Suffield Fire Department train year round to continuously hone their skills, either in house or at the CT Fire Academy.

Training includes, but is not limited to:

• Firefighting
• Vehicle Extrication
• Ice Rescue
• Low Angle Rope Rescue
• Wilderness Search & Rescue
• Hazmat

Firefighters are certified to the minimum levels of Firefighter I and Hazmat Operational. While these certifications are a success to achieve in and of itself, many members choose to challenge themselves by certifying to levels above this minimum standard.

Residents are asked to become involved in their community by joining the Department. There are opportunities to assist as a member which do not require firefighting including fire support and other administrative positions alike.
