PUBLIC NOTICE – SCHEDULED BLASTING - 1700 MOUNTAIN ROAD (PRIDES CORNER)
The Town of Suffield is providing notice to residents regarding scheduled rock blasting operations at 1700 Mountain Road, commonly known as Prides Corner.
Blasting is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, with the first blast anticipated at approximately 9:00 a.m. Blasting activities will initially take place on the rear portion of the property.
Following the initial blast, blasting will occur intermittently on various days as site work progresses. Blasting operations will be limited to the hours of 9:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m.
Residents in the surrounding area may hear loud reports and/or experience vibration associated with the scheduled blasting operations.
On each day that blasting is scheduled, the Town will provide notification through the Town of Suffield website and Town social media accounts. Residents are encouraged to check these sources for current blasting-day information.
The blasting operations are associated with permitted site work at the property and will be conducted in accordance with applicable requirements and established safety procedures.

Beginning on Monday 9/14 road work will be taking place on Phelps Road. Please drive safely and be aware of Public Works employees and Police Officers as you travel the road. The road will remain open during construction.
Temporary Closure: Due to structural failures of the Suffield Street culvert, the road is closed to all through traffic at the intersection of Mather Street (Southbound) and at the town line coming from Windsor Locks (Northbound). Through traffic is not permitted and cannot cross. Please follow detour signs. The town understands the inconvenience this causes and is working diligently to have the culvert rebuilt and the road opened as soon as possible.
In 2020, Tecton Architects was commissioned to complete a Facilities Master Plan evaluating the condition and long-term needs of major Town facilities. The study identified Suffield Middle School and Fire Station 1 as priority buildings requiring significant infrastructure improvements and long-range planning.
Following additional review by Town committees and the Permanent Building Commission, the Town engaged Colliers as Owner’s Project Manager to help guide the evaluation and planning process for both facilities. Throughout this process, the Town has worked closely with the Board of Education, school staff, Fire Commission, and Fire Department to better understand operational and community needs.

Please join us in welcoming Christopher Nevins to the Town of Suffield! Christopher joined the Town in July 2026 as a Library Clerk. Prior to joining the Kent Memorial Library, Christopher served as a Member Services Supervisor at the Delray Beach, Florida Library. He also owned and operated a garden design and maintenance business, combining his creativity with his lifelong passion for gardening and landscaping.
Christopher's love of gardening began when he was a young boy and continues to be one of his favorite pastimes. His favorite flower is the peony, and he enjoys collecting gardening books, as well as reading about history, architecture, and art history. He is currently restoring and renovating a 1790 home, a project that allows him to blend his appreciation for history with hands-on craftsmanship.
We're excited to have Christopher as part of the Town of Suffield team and look forward to the knowledge, creativity, and enthusiasm he brings to the Kent Memorial Library.
